Preparing for a Day of Boating
A fun and safe boat trip starts long before you leave the shore. Use the following tips to prepare for your journey and set yourself up for a successful voyage.
For all of your boat needs, visit the experts at Bob Hewes Boats. We proudly serve those in Miami, Pompano Beach, and Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
1. Inspect Your Safety Equipment
Before you venture out on the boat, make sure that your safety equipment is ready to go.
For example:
- Do you have enough life jackets for all of the passengers?
- Do you have flares stored somewhere in case you need to call for help?
- Do you have a fully stocked first aid kit in case of a medical emergency?
Looking over your safety supplies in advance gives you time to restock anything that's missing or expired.
2. Check Your Boat's Fuel Level
Make sure that your boat has enough fuel to get you to your destination and back. Test the boat's engine before setting out, too. Ensure that it starts up smoothly and that all onboard systems are functioning properly.
3. Have the Right Navigation Tools
The right navigation devices can help ensure a successful boat trip by keeping you on course and showing you nearby landmarks or potential hazards. Make sure to download any relevant charts or maps beforehand and keep them handy while boating.
Once your boat is prepared, pack some snacks and drinks, put on some sunscreen, grab your shades, and hit the open waters!
