There are more registered boats in Florida than in any other state. Given our peninsular status that surrounds us with the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, the Florida Strait and the Gulf of Mexico, plus our many inland waters like Lake Okeechobee, it’s not hard to see why! Whether you’re thinking about buying a boat or you already have one, you’ll want a good place to take it.

Since it can be hard to figure out where to go with so many options, your friends here at Bob Hewes Boats have picked a few of our favorite places to go. We’re your North Miami boat dealer, so bring us all your marine questions!

Fort Lauderdale

This coastal city is a hotbed for yachting, thanks to its seven miles of ocean beaches which get over 3,000 hours of sunshine per year. Fort Lauderdale is a boating paradise for pleasure cruisers, both local and visiting, who crave the warm azure waters of the Atlantic.

You can also head down one of the inland waterways like the New River, which cuts through downtown, or paddle boat down the Stranahan River. There’s no shortage of boat-and-dock restaurants, either, so you can pause your exploring to have some oyster shooters or king crab.

Haulover Sandbar

Located just off the coast of North Miami, just west of the Haulover Beach Marina, the Haulover Sandbar is an extremely popular place for boaters of all stripes to gather, particularly on weekends. During low tide, the sand emerges from the water to provide you with an island beach surrounded by turquoise waters.

You can only reach the Haulover Sandbar by boat, which is what makes it such a draw for local mariners. The sandbar is served by a food boat that sells a delicious ceviche salad in addition to more standard fare like burgers, ice cream and other snacks. Take a cruise around the marina and make this one of your stops for the afternoon!
